Today is a special day for our family. It's the anniversary of our move to Indiana three years ago. It's an anniversary that is both sad to celebrate and happy to celebrate all at the same time.
It's sad because leaving Portland was something we never thought we'd do. We have all our family in Portland - on both sides - and we both grew up there. It's home and will always be home, at least for Marcy and I. Returning to Portland over the past few years we've also developed a greater appreciation for the beauty of the Pacific Northwest that, as natives, we just took for granted way too long.
The part of this anniversary that is happy for us is the celebration of the wonderful things that have happened in our family since moving. Life experiences over the past three years have brought the six of us closer together in ways that I am certain would never have happened had we stayed in Portland. We've grown stronger in our faith and closer as a family unit, more reliant on each other rather than dependent on the rest of our extended family for support. At the same time, we've also developed a greater appreciation for our families in OR/WA, sort of the absence makes the heart grow fonder concept.
So, today we celebrate an anniversary that while happy and sad is worth celebrating for us, and we're very thankful and blessed to have all the people in our lives that have made it worth celebrating.
