This Christmas is our 15th together since we were married, and through each Christmas we have had the same Angel on the top of our tree. I remember Marcy bringing her home shortly after we were married (months before the holiday season), explaining she saw it in the store and thought we had to have her! Over the years, it's been the single decoration that everything and everyone stops for as place it atop the tree. Even this year, with Marcy doing all the work, the Angel didn't get placed on top until I was home to be a part of it. She's survived 7 ft falls, crayon and marker attacks, poor packing, eight moves, and even the great spider infestation of 1995 - a terrible and psychologically scarring event that nearly destroyed Christmas that year! (If you really want that story, you have to ask for it.)
When you get right down to it, She's our very own version of the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. It wouldn't feel the same if we couldn't look to the top of our tree and see her looking down.
Hopefully you guys will have your tree angel as long as we have had ours; 37 years and counting! :-)
