Since he was just a little guy, Caleb has always been my movie buddy. If someone were to ask either of us what our favorite activities are to do together, we would both likely say "go to the movies" as one of our first responses. So it really came as no surprise when it came time to decide how we would celebrate Caleb's birthday today that he would pick "go to a movie with Dad" as his choice. The twist to this selection though was that he wanted to go to the midnight showing of second Hobbit movie.
A month or so ago when this idea came up it sounded good, but now faced with the nearly three hour
movie in front of me and the fact that I am already tired, I am beginning to realize that these late late night movies may now be a little much. I think that means I am getting old....
What I have hoped for all along though is that this birthday would be a great memory for Caleb and I. It's been a guy's night out, just the two of us. We spent the last couple hours at Buffalo Wild Wings eating wings and pretzels while we watched a football game and now we're in a theater for his first ever midnight showing at a movie theater. As tired as I am, I know I'll remember tonight as a fun night with my oldest son.
I've spent the day thankful for the past fourteen years that Caleb has been a part of my life, but at 11:56pm tonight, I am thankful for the fun memory tonight will be eventually be - and for the caffeine in my Diet Coke...I've still got a long night in front of me.
Happy Birthday Caleb!
