As documented in a prior posting, I have been really stressing out about the design of this year's family Christmas card. Nothing has seemed good enough and as a result I have not been able to settle on a design that we all liked.
Then, after that post, I had a friend comment and challenge me via Facebook:
Are you guilty of what I often find myself guilty of? You don't have to top last year's idea. It *was* fantatstic, and if this year's design is just *great* that's fine. The intent/spirit is to show us what is important to you guys, right? Maybe simple/straightforward is best. Don't get stuck trying to be clever and accidently miss the real intent of connecting with those you care about.
Wow! That last line really hit me. The whole intent of why we send our cards and write our Christmas letter is because we want to share with people special to us updates about our family and let them know that we care about them and are thinking of them during the holiday season. Instead, I think I allowed the idea of the card to become about me - and frankly, just typing that makes me feel a little creepy. The last thing the Christmas season is about, is me (feeling creepy again).
So, below is our 2011 Family Christmas card - simple and basic in design, but complete with sincerity of thought and love for our family and friends during the Christmas season.
